Does the library accept volunteers?
Yes, but we are not able to accommodate every request at all times. Please review our policy below:
Langworthy Public Library Volunteer Policy (Approved by the Library Board of Trustees on April 14, 2021.)
The library appreciates the service and dedication of volunteers. Volunteers perform valuable work that enhances the mission of the library and contributes to our community success. Volunteers are not a substitute for paid staff and are not expected to carry out the scope of duties expected from paid staff. Volunteers are selected based on the needs of the library and may perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to: organizing and shelving library materials, assisting with mailings, preparing craft materials, cleaning, and yard work. Due to the fluctuating nature of volunteer work, we are not always in a position to provide an immediate match. Volunteers are trained and supervised by paid staff and must commit to a reliable schedule. Individuals must be age 14 or older to volunteer. The library welcomes teens who require volunteer work for school, honor societies, faith-based organizations, scouts, and other similar organizations. Court-ordered community service requests are accepted at the discretion of the director. Interested individuals may ask library staff for a volunteer application.
Can I hang my artwork at the library?
Yes, if you are able to abide by our Artist Display Procedures (below) and we can determine and agree upon a schedule for you:
Langworthy Public Library Artist Display Procedures
We are excited to offer our patrons the experience of seeing artwork from local artists, and promoting the talent our area has to offer. Below is some information about our gallery space, hanging the show and other questions you may have. We recommend that you first look at the space to see if it can accommodate the type of artwork you will be displaying.
Gallery Space
This is on the top floor of the library, within the library proper. It can accommodate approximately 12-16 hanging pieces of artwork. A staff member is always present when the library is open. We use a permanent hanging system to protect the walls, which requires the artwork be ready to hang with stable wiring in the back of each piece. Artwork should be properly framed and presented.
Hanging the Show
Shows run 4-6 weeks, with dates agreed upon in advance. There is a ladder at the library and most spaces are easy to access. If you need assistance, a staff or board member would be happy to help, please arrange a time and date. You should have identification tags for each piece, and your CV for viewing on the central table. Any signage is also welcome. If you want to sell your work, please have the prices on each tag, along with a price sheet for the table. The work must stay on the walls until the end of the show. The library does not take a percentage from the work sold, but we do encourage donations.
We host an opening reception the first Friday after the work is hung, from 5-7 pm or 6-8. The library will send an email to our patron list to promote the show and opening reception, and the artist should do the same with their contact list. The more promotion the better, so get the word out as much as possible. The library will provide wine and soft drinks for the opening, with cups and paper products. The artist is responsible for providing the food.
Show Take Down
Please set up a time with us to take down the show during library hours. Any work sold can be left for pick up at the library if that is more convenient, please arrange that ahead of time.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at langworthylibrary@gmail.com, 539-2851.
Do you Accept Book Donations?
During certain times of the year we will periodically put a call out for book donations. This is usually related to a book sale or special library event. Unfortunately, due to a lack of storage space we are unable to accept book donations on an ongoing basis.
